Kubrick, A.I., and the problem of Pinocchio: reassessing the evidence of A.I.: Artificial Intelligence / Graham ALLEN
Article - English -
Draws on material in the Stanley Kubrick Archive to explore Kubrick's work on adapting Brian Aldiss’s short-story ‘Supertoys Last All Summer Long’ for the screen, a project ultimately realised as the film 'A.I. Artificial Intelligence' (2001) directed by Steven Spielberg. Looks in particular at the treatments produced by Kubrick and two of his collaborators, Sarah Maitland and Ian Watson. Argues that the contradictions within the finished film result not from differences between the styles of Kubrick and Spielberg, as is often suggested, but rather from the tension between science and myth in Kubrick's vision of the story. In: Adaptation v8 n3 2015, pp. 372-382
